One of the protagonists in this field was Osho / Baghwan. Initially he taught in the United States, later in Poona, India. He merged his knowledge of Christian mysticism, Kabbalah, Tantra, Vipassana and Zen into a new teaching.

One of his students was Margot Annand. He promoted her and much of what is known today about neo-tantra comes from Margot Annand. She combined chakra, body and breath work. In addition, she taught sex techniques so that with the help of pure sexual energy the attainment of higher states of consciousness became possible. Every human being is perceived as a divine beginning in the philosophy of Tantra.

In 1978, Andro (Andreas Rothe) developed the yin-yang massage, which formed an important cornerstone for the emergence of tantra massage. The tantra massage is characterized by ritual worship, the tantric encounter and the courage to desire and closeness. Well-founded knowledge of energy and anatomy complement the ritual framework. Additional representatives would be Joseph Kramer, who developed genital massage, and Ray Stubbs, the latter included anal in genital massage.

This term was coined by the Indian mystic Baghwan Shree Rajneesh, who later called himself OSHO. He wanted to create a tantra for modern people, a tantra that manages spontaneously, poetically and without rituals. The original Tantra, which is based on Buddhism and Hinduism with its complex world of gods and mysticism, is difficult for western people to understand. Neo-Tantra can be understood as a purified and modernized version of the original teaching. It is connected with modern science, psychology and has primarily therapeutic significance.

Unconventional methods are also part of the tantric path. These are the traditions of "left-handed tantra" in contrast to "right-handed tantra" for which abstinence is characteristic. In tantra philosophy there is no distinction between pure and impure, high and low, sacred and profane. This division would contradict an opening of the mind. The goal is a non-dual consciousness that eliminates all distinctions. Neo-Tantra is a serious attempt to reconcile sexuality and spirituality. Remaining from the Tantra tradition is the idea that sexual energy is the basic form of all life energy and is therefore related to the energy of the sacred and spiritual. Neo-Tantra wants to dissolve the split between the sexual and the sacred through the reconciliation of opposites. Physicality and eroticism thus acquire a sacred dimension.
